Harvard’s Erica Chenoweth studied a century of responses to authoritarian regimes and found: “Nonviolent protests are twice as likely to succeed as armed conflicts – as those engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change”
That’s 170,000 people. We can do this NZ!
This Bill makes it LAW for Health NZ to work with private healthcare providers.
It removes Health Sector Principles currently in law that guarantee equity of access, level of service and health outcomes for all.
It gives the Minister the power to appoint anyone to the Health NZ Board without any experience or expertise in the public sector, financial management, or the Treaty of Waitangi, and establishes a new Infrastructure Committee to make decisions on funding and provision of hospitals and other health facilities separate to the Board. Our public health system could be governed by corporate representatives who build infrastructure to serve their own for-profit interests.

“New Zealand’s healthcare system faces unprecedented challenges, yet those making critical decisions about its future retain the luxury of private alternatives. This fundamental disconnect between policymakers and the public they serve undermines both accountability and the quality of healthcare decisions.
We propose a simple solution: any MP entering Parliament should voluntarily waive their right to private healthcare during their tenure. Cabinet Ministers should extend this commitment to their immediate family members for both their time in office and an equivalent period thereafter.”
